Ourselves/People who help us

This week we have been:

Talking about things we like to do and things that we like to eat. We read a story called ‘Things I like’ and then we shared with the class things that we like. We made things we like with the playdough and some of use drew pictures of the things we like.

In phonics this week we continued listening to sounds that we hear around us and made some of these sounds by using our bodies. We enjoyed stamping on the ground, splashing in puddles, running in leaves and shutting the door. What sounds do you hear at home?

In maths this week we focused on numbers to 10 and sang ’10 green bottles’. We wrote numbers to 10 and then rubbed each number out so that we knew how many we had left.

In RE this week we learnt that Jesus loves us and although we can not see him he watches over us all the time. Jesus left us a special necklace to show us that he is always in our hearts and we are always in his. We watched a video and sang a special song.

Ourselves/People who help us

This week we have been:

Learning how to look after ourselves and be healthy. We read ‘I don’t want to wash my hands’ and practiced washing our hands. We learnt that you need to wash your hands before we eat and drink, after we have used the toilet, after we have been playing outside and if we have been touching animals. Even if our hands look clean there could be germs on them that we can not see, this could make us sick. We then looked at people that will help us or our pets when we feel ill or when we are in pain. We spoke about doctors, nurses, paramedics, opticians, dentists and vets. We used our doctor roleplay to help us.

In phonics this week we continued listening to sounds that we hear around us. We played a game called the ‘listening bag’, we listened to Mrs Herne make sounds with different objects and then guessed what we thought it was. We have also been counting the syllables in our names and using our bodies to make the sounds. For example, Mrs Herne is ‘Miss-is-Herne’ it has 3 syllables.

In maths this week we sang five little ducks. We wrote numbers to 5 under the ducks and counted down as we sang the song.

Here are some examples of the children’s maths learning this week.

In RE this week we celebrated St Cyprian’s day. We made cakes using the playdough and made a special flower for our family. Mrs Herne also gave us a flower to take home.

We have also been learning about the parts of our bodies. We had lots fun singing ‘heads, shoulders’  knees and toes’ in different speeds and pointing to different parts of our bodies.

People who help us – Police and Fire

This week we have been:

Learning about the important jobs the police and fire departments do for us. We looked at the transport they use, where and what they do. We decorated a police man and a fireman, pretended to be policeman and woman in the role-play area and pretended to be firemen and women inside and outside using the fire engine. We had a great time finding out what they do, some of our class would like to firemen and woman and policemen and women when we grow up. We hope you were able to make it to our class assembly and that you enjoyed finding out what we have been learning this half term.

‘y’ – down the horn, up the horn, under his chin.

we also started to look at how we can use the sounds we know to make words.

In maths this week we were looking at 2D shapes. We watched a train video which explained all about 2D shapes and how they can be used to make a train roller coaster.

In RE this week we read a story from the bible called ‘The Good Samaritan’. We learnt that it’s kind to help others and that we all have helping hands. We printed our hands on a piece of paper to show everybody that we all have kind, helping hands.

This week Mrs Baron gave us some great news, she would like us to take care of a chicken that we hatched in the school almost 2 years ago. She is not fully developed and has been poorly, so we are going to take are of her and make her feel happy again. We are going to use our helping hands to help ‘Dinky’ feel happy again.

Unfortunately our cocoons did not hatch in time for us to see them change. Mrs Lowe took them home and on Sunday when she woke up three cocoons had changed into butterflies!!!! They look very happy and Mrs Lowe has feed them some sugar water to keep them growing and make them strong. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the other two hatch soon.
